Molded Flash Gasket for Game and Trail Cameras |
||
|
I have developed a Molded Gasket to seal the flash on the Olympus D-370 and D-380 digital cameras. The gasket conforms exactly to the face of the camera when the shutter door is open and is made from a shore 30 A durometer polyurethane. Shore A 30 is about the same stiffness as regular household silicone. They should also help with the door turning the cameras off. The gasket is approximately 1/8" bigger than the cameras in all directions. This creates a lip all the way around the camera and provides an exact location for the camera. The back is flat and will fit flush against the front of the case. A Slight pressure is required to press the camera up against the gasket providing a perfect seal to prevent flash bleed. I use foam behind the camera to press the camera against the seal, but some choose to use an elastic strap secured to the case with eye hooks. The Gasket is 1/16" thick at the thinnest point. The camera will set as close to the glass with the gasket as without it. I have a version without the holes for those who prefer not to cut a hole for the flash in their enclosure or want to use it for an IR camera. Please ask for one without holes if you want it. Other wise they will come with the holes. There is a built in mold release in
the gaskets that precipitates to the surface during cure. It needs
to be scrubbed of with a stiff brush (kitchen brush) and dishwashing
detergent. The gaskets are very durable so don't worry about hurting
them. Some guys are using goop to stick them to the case with good
success, but most report good results using double stick carpet tape.
